What is a research assistant? 

A research assistant is usually an undergraduate student at UNCG or an individual who is looking to gain more experience in the field of psychology/research before applying to jobs or graduate school. With the SCENE lab, a research assistant may volunteer their time or earn course credit at UNCG for their work in the lab. To receive course credit, a research assistant must register for PSY 433 and commit to nine weekly lab hours, including an hour and a half for lab meetings.

What kind of experience would I gain?

In the SCENE lab, our research assistants have the opportunity to learn what it means to conduct research in the field of psychology through exposure to a wide variety of experiences. Specifically, our lab members assist with active data collection for the lab's current studies, help with the development of new studies, conduct peer mentor research projects, and engage with a variety of scientific literatures. Our research assistants gain tangible hands on experience with conducting participant interviews, working in Qualtrics, data cleaning, psychophysiological data collection, and team oriented research.
